This was the first inbred mouse strain in the world found by Little, and the 212th subline became DBA/2. DBA/2J* mice at F155 were introduced from the Jackson Laboratory to CLEA Japan, Inc. in 1986. DBA/2N mice at F124 were introduced from NIH to the Central Institute for Experimental Animals in 1978, and then to CLEA Japan, Inc. at F124+26 in 1988.

These mice have hair that is a light chocolate color (aa bb CC), are likely to develop audiogenic seizures, and have low morphine or alcohol preferences. Male mice of this strain have a high mortality rate after exposure to chloroform and ethylene oxide.
These mice are used in various study fields involving convulsions, toxicity, etc.
