SPF animals are defined as specific pathogen-free animals that have no specified microorganisms or parasites. CLEA Japan, Inc. performs regular microbiologic tests for the following specific microorganisms from three viewpoints: influences on experiments, influences on humans, and as a measure of hygiene control.
Animals produced using the Barrier System are called “BS animals.” The Barrier System is a collective designation for the hardware and software that has been designed to maintain these SPF animals.
