F1 mice from the cross breeding of two different inbred strains show a higher heterogeneity and exhibit phenotype patterns and responses of dominant characteristics found in the lines of their parents. Genetic variations among different individuals are reportedly as small as those in cases of inbred strains. In addition, because of heterosis, F1 mice are more robust than inbred mice and better adaptable to their environment, in addition to having a longer life. Making use of these characteristics, F1 mice are used for various cancer studies and screening tests. F1 mice are produced from the cross breeding of various inbred strains according to the respective aims of experiments. CLEA Japan, Inc. is producing and supplying JcI:B6C3 F1 mice and Jcl:BD F1 mice.
F1 mice are produced by the following crossings of parent mice supplied from proliferative or production colonies of the inbred strains C3H/HeN, C57BL/6N, and DBA/2N.
